Esch-Alzette and the South of Luxembourg
Esch-Alzette is Luxembourgs second biggest town. But it is still young, it got the title of "town" in 1906. In comparison to Echternach - though - it is growing much faster. It experienced a boom-phase together with the emergence of Luxemourg's steel-industry. That is why during the last decades it carried an image of a "dirty and grey" town.
Now that much of the heavy industry has left, and the old mines and old industrial sites have been reconquered by nature, they are slowly being re-discovered as potential tourist attractions. In addition to this, the national government is investing much money in the region, with the quasi-creation of a new town (Esch-Belval) and the new University of Luxembourg, which will also be based here.

Natural reserves in the North
For its small size Luxembourg has a lot of beautiful landskapes. As only half a million people live in the country, it still has much space for nature. Especially in the north of Luxembourg, in the "Eislek", the Luxembourgish ardennes, nature and free open spaces are available in abundance.
Furthermore near Esch-sur-Sure, here you also find Luxembourgs largest lake - it is an artificial lake, built to provide clean water and energy for the whole country.

Wiltz
Wiltz, or Wolz in Luxembourgish, is the main town on the north of the country. It is known because of its castle, its beer, and its music festival. Furthermore tourists enjoy the nature surrounding Wiltz.

Diekirch
The town of Diekirch is located on the river Sure, just like Echternach. It does not have such an abundantly rich history as Echternach, but it still has much to offer.
